How do I check if a single stock is halal?

You do not need to be a finance professional to do an honest first check on a stock. You need two plain questions, in the right order.

Question one is the business itself: what does this company sell to make its money? If the answer is alcohol, gambling, conventional banking, adult content, or weapons sold for harm, you can stop there. Question two is the balance sheet: even a wholesome business can fail the check if it runs on a huge amount of interest-based borrowing or earns a meaningful slice of income from interest. Screening services and screened funds check exactly these things against established Shariah standards, which is why most people sensibly use a trusted screening tool rather than reading annual reports by hand.

Where we stand: for the vast majority of investors, a reputable screening tool or a screened fund is the realistic, honest path. Checking by hand is for those who want to go deeper — and even then, a final ruling on an edge case belongs with a scholar.

Every share is a small piece of ownership in what a company does in the world. On the Day you are asked how you earned your wealth, "I owned a slice of it" is an answer you want to give cleanly. The few minutes are worth it.
