What is rizq, and is it really already decreed?

By Mehdi, Senior Sukuk Fund Manager · Updated May 2026

This is the foundation under everything else we teach, so it is worth getting clear — because most financial anxiety dissolves the moment this truly lands.

The short answer: Rizq is everything Allah provides you — wealth, yes, but also health, knowledge, family, and time. And yes: Islamic teaching is that your share of it is already written. Understood rightly, that is the single most calming idea in all of personal finance.

Rizq means provision in the widest sense — not only money, but every good thing Allah channels to you. The teaching, grounded in the Qur'an and Sunnah, is that the measure of your provision is already decreed; it will reach you, in full, no more and no less than what was written. (The exact narrations are worth reading from a reliable source.) This does not mean money falls from the sky — it means the outcome is in Allah's hands while the effort is in yours.

Where we stand: this belief is the engine of how we invest — calmly. If your share is guaranteed, you never have to lie, cheat, take riba, or panic to secure it; those are attempts to grab what is already coming to you cleanly. Rizq being decreed does not make us passive — we still work, plant, and invest diligently, because seeking it is itself commanded. It simply removes the desperation, the greed, and the fear from the seeking.

Sit with how freeing this is. The whole world hustles in a low-grade panic that there will not be enough. You can step out of that race entirely — work hard, act wisely, and rest your heart on the One who already wrote your portion. That peace is itself a form of wealth.

If this resonated, the Akhirah Economics page lays out the whole idea — why we treat wealth as something you answer for, and invest for the life that lasts.
